The Bombala Multipurpose Service expansion is preparing for its next stage
The Australian and NSW Governments have committed $40 million to expand the Bombala Multipurpose Service (MPS). The project will increase the number of residential aged care beds and enhance support areas.
Project update
Since the appointment of the design team in November 2024, Health Infrastructure has been working closely with Southern NSW Local Health District and Bombala MPS staff to inform designs that prioritise safety, functionality, and a home-like environment for residents. Site investigations and due diligence activities are ongoing and will continue to inform the project’s planning and design. Construction timeframes will be confirmed as the project progresses.
Consultation
Consultation is an important part of the planning process. The goal is to ensure clinical spaces are functional and safe for staff and the aged care areas feel comfortable and home-like for residents. Feedback from key stakeholders, including community and staff will be needed to guide various aspects of the facility’s design, including:
- How the building’s exterior can reflect Bombala’s local character and create a welcoming, accessible environment.
- Shared spaces, internal layout, and room design, including design considerations for lounges, dining areas, and gardens that promote inclusivity, accessibility, and meet the needs of residents, visitors, and staff.
- Wayfinding, colours, materials, and art, we will gather preferences that support a calm, easy-to-navigate environment.
Arts in Health
As part of the Bombala Multipurpose Service expansion, an Arts in Health program will be integrated into the planning and design of the upgraded facility. Carefully selected artworks, created in collaboration with local artists and the community, will be thoughtfully placed throughout key areas to support wellbeing, provide moments of connection and comfort, and help people feel more at home.
To achieve all of this we will need input from staff, residents, and visitors. Interested community members are encouraged to register for updates and to be notified of the upcoming consultation period.
