Residents of Broken Hill and surrounding communities are being invited to tour the new Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit (MHIPU) at Broken Hill Health Service, as part of community open days on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 October 2025. Bookings for site tours are now open.
Construction of the new mental health unit is nearing completion and a series of community site tours will offer locals a first look at the new modern and therapeutic mental health spaces being delivered, before opening in the coming months.
The new 8-bed unit will provide welcoming, comfortable, safe and supportive mental health facilities, as well as ensuring a much-needed expansion of services to the area.
The guided tours will include all key areas of the new unit, including the reception and waiting room, communal room, inpatient bedrooms, sensory modulation room, exercise room, staff areas and outdoor spaces.
Members of the MHIPU team will be on hand to answer questions about how the new unit will function and the builders, Barpa, will provide a free barbeque.
The Community Open Days are free events. Spaces are limited and registration is essential.
Registrations are now open and close at 4.00pm on Wednesday 8 October. View the event booking page to find out more and to register to attend one of the 30-minute tours.
