Builder appointed to deliver new Westmead Supportive and Palliative Care Unit
Work to deliver the new Westmead Supportive and Palliative Care Unit has taken a key step forward with Interior Construction Group (ICG) engaged as the main works contractor.
The new unit at Westmead Hospital will enable staff to provide high quality, specialist care whilst supporting the privacy, comfort, and dignity of people with a life limiting illness who have complex symptoms and end of life care needs.
It will feature 15 bedrooms with ensuites and a rooftop extension to offer privacy and convenient access to complementary health services on the hospital campus.
Extensive consultation with staff and consumers has ensured the new unit meets the diverse needs of Western Sydney residents.
Consultation has helped shaped the unit’s design, which will feature a multi-faith room, communal and private spaces, and outdoor access from every room to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for patients and their families.
The new purpose-designed unit at Westmead Hospital is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $93 million World Class End of Life Care program, which will redevelop and refurbish palliative care facilities across NSW.
Construction is set to begin later this year following design finalisation.
