Call for artists to contribute to the New Shellharbour Hospital’s design
Artists with a strong connection to the Illawarra region are invited to be part of the arts program for the new Shellharbour Hospital, with Expressions of Interest (EOI) now open.
The artworks will feature in key spaces throughout the new hospital and will support a healing environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Reflecting the rich and diverse community of the Illawarra, submissions are being encouraged from artists at all stages of their career. The project is also working closely with the Multicultural Health team and invites artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to express interest.
The arts program aims to create a welcoming and supportive environment for staff, patients, visitors and carers. It will feature artworks that will give the new hospital a modern and distinct identity while celebrating the region’s culture, community, and landscape.
Health Infrastructure Acting Executive Director, Nicolas Di Condio, said the arts program for the new Shellharbour Hospital is an important opportunity to bring local identity into the facility’s design, reflecting the Illawarra’s unique culture and community.
“We’re proud to support an initiative that will positively impact the wellbeing and health outcomes of patients,” Mr Di Condio said.
“We know that integrating art into health facilities plays an important role in improving patient health and wellbeing.
“This is a unique opportunity for artists in the Illawarra to be part of a lasting legacy that improves the experience of patients, carers and healthcare workers every day.”
Expressions of Interest for artists to take part are now open and will close at 5pm on Monday 15 September 2025. To apply, complete the Expression of Interest form.
