Calling local artists: Help shape the Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment
The Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment is creating a modern, welcoming healthcare facility for our community, and we want local creativity to be part of it.
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are now open for art commissions in the new acute services building, with opportunities for artists to contribute works that will help create calming, uplifting spaces for patients, families, and staff.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a significant public health project and showcase your work in a high-profile space that reflects the spirit and diversity of the Cessnock and Hunter region.
There are multiple opportunities available, and artists are invited to apply for:
- Envirographics - up to three artists will be selected to create artworks that will be installed as large-scale graphics throughout the new hospital areas
- Curated wall hung artworks - to be displayed in clinical corridors and an associated program of purposeful activities and materials that support the Model of Care within the Inpatient Unit.
We welcome EOIs from artists at all career stages who are living or working in the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and who have a strong connection to Cessnock.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists are encouraged to apply, as well as organisations and collaborative groups.
Key details:
- Expressions of Interest close Friday 14 November
- Submit your creative response and supporting documents via Have Your Say
- Need help? Email HI-Arts@health.nsw.gov.au or call 0422 458 622
You’ll need to provide examples of previous work, a description of your creative practice, and your connection to Cessnock or the region.
There are alternate formats or phone lodgement available for any accessibility needs.
Selected artists will be commissioned to develop the final artworks, with installation planned for late 2026.
