Major milestone for Cessnock Hospital celebrated with sod turn
Construction is officially underway on the $138 million Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment, marking a significant milestone in delivering enhanced health services for Cessnock and surrounding communities.
The redevelopment will include a new, state-of-the-art, two-storey Acute Services Building, which has been designed to enhance and modernise health services for the region.
The new facility will house upgraded clinical services currently delivered in the existing hospital buildings, including:
- An expanded emergency department
- Operating theatre and day surgery spaces
- Two new inpatient wards with single or double rooms and ensuites
- A new sterilising services unit
- A modern medical imaging service
- A fully equipped pharmacy
Several decommissioned buildings on the hospital campus will be demolished to allow room for the new development. This will improve access and connectivity across the site.
Construction follows the recent approval of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) planning application and the appointment of builder, Hansen Yuncken.
The Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment will support an estimated 250 direct jobs, with the potential to support hundreds of indirect jobs throughout the project.
The new building is expected to be completed in 2027.
