Community invited to name iconic construction crane
Local primary students invited to name cranes at Shellharbour Hospital site; winners receive an iPad and attend naming ceremony.

Local school students are being invited to name the 2 tower cranes supporting the delivery of the new Shellharbour Hospital.
The first crane arrived at site in late March and will be integral to the construction of the new seven storey hospital. The second crane is scheduled to arrive in the coming months.
To help celebrate the crane’s arrival, local primary school children are invited to take part in a “Name the Crane” competition, with the 2 winning names to be placed on each crane. The Prizes include:
- an iPad for each of the winners
- official crane naming ceremony including a photo opportunity with the flag of their chosen name to be hoisted above the crane.
The crane’s arrival follows significant progress on site, with the recent completion of 540 concrete foundations for the ground floor of the new building.
The winners will be announced in May.
You can return your entries back via email at HI-Shellharbour@health.nsw.gov.au.
Competition closes on Friday 2 May 2025, 5pm.
Health Infrastructure has engaged BESIX Watpac to construct the new hospital, on behalf of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
The new hospital is part of the more than $780 million New Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services Project, funded by the NSW and Australian governments.
