Construction starts on expanded Shoalhaven community preschool
Construction is underway on a new and expanded community pre-school at Shoalhaven, as part of the $438 million Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment.
Shoalhaven Community pre-school is being relocated nearby to a new purpose-built early education centre at the southern end of the Shoalhaven Hospital campus.
The new preschool:
- will accommodate up to 60 children, including up to 20 additional places
- have a dedicated parking zone for carer drop-off
- is only minutes from the preschool's current location, ensuring continuity of service and minimising any impacts on staff and families.
The project team has been working closely with the preschool to plan and design the new facility, which will provide a contemporary and expanded early education centre that meets the National Quality Standards for children aged between three and six years to support young families living in the area.
In addition to the new preschool, the southern end of the campus will be retained as greenspace, enhancing the area's family-friendly atmosphere. Fugen has been awarded the contract to build the project, with the facility due for completion in mid-2023.
The existing preschool will remain open at its current location until the new facility is complete. The Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital Redevelopment is continuing to progress, with the State Significant Development Application (SSDA) to be lodged with NSW Department of Planning and Environment in the coming months.
The SSDA will be placed on exhibition later this year, providing the community the opportunity to provide feedback on the design. The redevelopment will provide new facilities including:
- cardiology
- mental health
- aged care
- more operating theatres
- a new emergency department
- greater access to more specialised staff, equipment and technology.
