Early works contractor appointed for new Bankstown Hospital
New and expanded healthcare services are one step closer for the Bankstown community, with the early works contractor appointed for the new state-of-the-art Bankstown Hospital.
Located in the heart of Bankstown’s CBD, the $2 billion project is the largest single capital works investment in a public hospital in the state’s history.
It will transform healthcare for South-West Sydney’s growing and diverse community, delivering a modern multi-storey building which will house acute health services including emergency, operating theatres and inpatient wards.
Hindmarsh Construction Australia has been engaged to deliver the early works, which will prepare the hospital site for main works construction. The first stage of construction includes demolition and site remediation and is expected to be completed in 2027.
The final scope for the new hospital will be finalised as planning progresses, and is expected to include:
- an emergency department
- operating theatres
- an intensive care unit
- surgical and medical services
- women and children’s health services including maternity
- mental health inpatient services
- ambulatory care
- cancer services
- aged care health services
- multi-storey car park and on-ground parking.
Planning and design for the new Bankstown Hospital continues to be guided by ongoing community feedback, helping to shape and inform the overall project.
Community information sessions will be held throughout 2026 to ensure the community is updated about the $2 billion project and upcoming works.
The new Bankstown Hospital project is being delivered by Health Infrastructure in partnership with the South Western Sydney Local Health District.
