Funding for viral vector manufacturing facility

The Viral Vector Manufacturing Facility - Stage 2 will be located at the Westmead Health and Innovation District, with a boost of $51.8 million in funding to accelerate viral vector products for both research and clinical trials.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrotett, NSW Treasurer, Minister for Energy and Environment Matt Kean, and Minister for Health Medical Research Brad Hazzard announced the funding as part of a $270.3 million boost for biomedical research at its world-leading health and innovation precincts. 

Manufacturing commercial grade viral vectors locally will secure viral vector supply for Australian researchers and give patients faster access to ground-breaking therapies to treat genetic diseases and cancer and develop vaccines.

Investing in viral vector manufacturing and leveraging the state's bio-medical technology and research expertise will keep NSW at the forefront of this industry.
