Grafton Base Hospital Redevelopment - Parking and access changes August 2026
As our main works builder establishes the site compound, there are changes to parking and access at Grafton Base Hospital.
Richard Crookes Construction (RCC) main works construction site compound is located off Crown Street, and will be further expanded over time.
Currently the impacts are: Annex Building
The Crown Street public parking and access will be closed from 21 August 2026. Alternate access to the Annex Building is via the hospital main entry from Arthur Street (see the image below).
Parking is recommended along Arthur or Mary streets.
There will also be dedicated contractor parking for the builder and their subcontractors to maintain available parking for the hospital and neighbours.
We appreciate your patience as we deliver the construction works for the redevelopment.
Construction hours and activity
Work times will be Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm. There will be no work on Sundays or public holidays.
We understand that building new infrastructure can be disruptive, and we will make every effort to minimise any impacts. All construction activities are carried out with the health and safety of the staff, contractors and local community as our top priority.
What we’re building
The redevelopment will deliver a new multi-storey acute services building, including the emergency department, emergency short stay, medical imaging department including an MRI suite, inpatient unit and maternity unit.
The day surgery and operating suite will be expanded to provide two extra operating theatres, increasing overall capacity.
Located on the north-east side of the campus, the new building will be seamlessly integrated into the existing hospital.
There will also be a new road off Queen Street to provide ambulances with direct access to the emergency department, as well as extra car parking spaces.
