Growing local opportunities for Manning Hospital Redevelopment
Health Infrastructure (HI) partnered with NSW Treasury and our project partners in showcasing upcoming procurement opportunities on the Manning Hospital Redevelopment Stage 2 Project at the Gather and Grow event in Taree on Tuesday 25 August.
Gather and Grow is a program of events led by NSW Treasury that supports the growth of the First Nations business sector, bringing stakeholders together to make connections and share information about potential opportunities arising from NSW Government infrastructure projects.
Around 70 people attended the event, including local business owners, workers and representatives from across the Manning and wider Hunter New England region.
HI Chief Executive Emma Skulander spoke about HI’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation and creating meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal people and businesses through our projects:
By supporting procurement and professional development, we continue to build more inclusive facilities that reflect and benefit the communities they serve. Since the introduction of the Aboriginal Procurement Policy in 2021, HI has directed over $487 million to Aboriginal participation.
Emma Skulander
HI Executive Director, North Region Amanda Bock provided an overview of the Manning Hospital Redevelopment Stage 2 project and highlighted the importance of building strong relationships with local Aboriginal businesses throughout project delivery and beyond:
It’s an exciting time for the project, with the main works contractor appointed and construction starting earlier this month. I look forward to hearing more about the opportunities that flow from today’s session, and seeing local Aboriginal businesses involved on the project. This is a tangible way for us to make real progress towards reconciliation through equitable procurement.

Representatives from principal contractor Hansen Yuncken, and subcontractors Crest Mechanical, Carter & Osbourne Electrical and Hogan Plumbing met with local workers and Aboriginal business representatives in a structured networking session designed to align project opportunities with local capabilities.
Further Gather and Grow events are being planned for late 2026 and early 2027.
