Have your say on the Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment
The redevelopment is making progress on delivering a modern, state-of-the-art facility to meet the Cessnock community’s healthcare needs now and in the future. We're seeking your feedback on an amended proposal.
In April 2025, the redevelopment was granted planning approval after the project’s Review of Environmental Factors (REF) report went on public exhibition in early 2025.
Thank you to all those who shared their feedback.
Since the approval of the REF, the project team has engaged with hospital staff to identify services that will move into the new building. This review has determined that some older buildings are no longer required and therefore qualify for demolition.
The amended proposal:
- Changes to the new acute services building, including:
- revision to window sizes and locations, box gutter, eves and roof pitch;
- relocation of generator from roof to ground; and
- Adjustments to Jurd Street to accommodate Council preferred Bus Stop location.
- Additional infrastructure works are also required to be carried out, including:
- demolition of the Drinkwater Building
- demolition of the former View Street Clinic
- demolition of the Engineering Workshops
- Changes to mitigation measures, as follows:
- deletion of mitigation measure 72 – Flood Management.
The community is invited to provide feedback on these works with planning documents now on public exhibition.
The documents are available to view on Have Your Say.
The period of feedback closed at 5pm on Monday 20 April 2026.
The Cessnock Hospital Redevelopment will include an expanded emergency department, operating theatres and day surgery spaces, two new inpatient wards featuring single and two-bed patient rooms with ensuite bathrooms, sterilising services unit, a new medical imaging service and a modern pharmacy.
