Arts for health in the hospital has had such a strong Legacy of 25 years or so here, what it does is it inspires that different emotion and inspires bit of a community setting. My name is Julie Tate, I'm the Executive General Manager of John Hunter hospital.
To be involved with the arts project for the new build is really an exciting opportunity. We have all been to those great clinical buildings when you walk in and you know they've got the best equipment and, and they're great, but you also want to walk into that environment that feels naturally warm that expresses human emotion effectively on the walls or in the designs or statues, therefore our community is always welcome to be involved in our construction our design and our culture.
My name is Kiasmin Burrell, I run the arts for health program here at the John Hunter Hospital. Art is what I call the heart of the hospital, it allows people to feel welcome distracted from what's going on from, from their day to day and it also supports staff. We have 3 monthly exhibitions that come into the hospital, so they always look forward to what's, what's next and what's coming so it's really nice to freshen those walls up in our hospital.
I'm Lauretta Morton and I'm the director of Newcastle Art Gallery. I think the exciting part about this project is there are so many different areas that we're actually having art incorporated into the new build. We make that selection based on where we think the right artist should be and where they presenting their work and it's a fantastic opportunity for artists because they're actually having their work on display permanently not just in an exhibition that has you know a finite time, they get to have their work presented and the community get to engage with it.
I think it's really important to invite people in for the design of the building and for the art pieces we're putting around because we want them to feel like they're safe here we want them to feel like it's their community that they can come to us at any time. That relationship piece is so so very important.
I think it's a privilege to be part of the Arts Working Group and to all have that common goal of wanting to share art and the benefits of what art can actually bring to the staff working in those spaces as well as the patients and the families of those patients coming in and out of the hospital.
