Latest design unveiled for Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital’s new Clinical Services Building
The detailed designs for the new 7-storey Clinical Services Building for the Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital Project have been unveiled, marking the next step forward in the project’s delivery.
It showcases a purpose-built, state of the art Clinical Services Building enabling contemporary, high quality health care for Albury Wodonga and border communities, supported by a major boost to parking.
The new Clinical Services Building at the Albury Hospital campus is the centrepiece of the $558 million Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital Project, which is jointly funded by the NSW, Victorian and Commonwealth Governments. The project is one of the largest regional hospital investments ever delivered in NSW, providing more beds, expanded clinical services and upgraded health facilities to create a better-connected health campus.
The new Clinical Services Building will connect to the existing Albury hospital and the new Northeast Building delivering:
- 110 additional overnight beds – including medical and surgical inpatient beds across three new inpatient units, and mental health beds. Emergency care bed services will also be expanded.
- Advanced digital operating theatres including a hybrid theatre for highly complex procedures and a new procedure room
- New state-of-the-art intensive care unit
- New cardiac catheterisation lab and a new procedure room
- Enhanced maternity, birthing suites and special care nursery, consolidating women’s and newborn services at Albury
- New 32-bed Mental Health Unit, replacing and expanding current services offered by Nolan House
- New allied health and outpatient facilities
- New hospital main entry along with landscaped outdoor areas, expanded retail and visitor spaces
- Over 300 additional car parking spaces, bringing total car parking capacity to approximately 1,000 spaces on the hospital campus by the completion of the project
To date, more than 2,500 people including health service staff, patients, stakeholder groups, community members and local councils have taken part in consultation and engagement activities to shape the design for the new Clinical Services Building.
Valuable feedback has informed the detailed design including increasing inpatient bed capacity by 110 beds. In addition, the building layout and inpatient unit design has been developed to support more efficient staff workflows and enhance patient experience.
The eight-hectare site has significant capacity for expansion to meet the needs of the health service and the broader community in the future. Future stages of expansion have been tested through the planning phases of the design to ensure the project scope enables further investment and growth in site infrastructure.
Additional parking at the hospital
The car parking strategy for the project will provide a significant increase in street-level parking spaces on the campus, boosting capacity by over 300 additional spaces to approximately 1,000 car parking spaces on the hospital campus.
The parking strategy will provide new parking close to key health services across the campus, including the Albury Regional Cancer Centre, emergency department and new clinical services building.
Other car parking options were considered during the planning and design process, including a multi-storey car park. The planned design with street-level parking provides as many spaces as the multi-storey option and also preserves land to enable future parking expansion to support long-term growth needs.
The release of the car parking strategy follows planning approval to deliver more than 200 new permanent verge parking spaces along East Street and Borella Road. Works for this permanent parking are expected to commence in the coming weeks, building on the temporary parking works already delivered along East Street.
The full planning application for the clinical services building, including the project’s parking strategy will be placed on public exhibition for community feedback later this year.
