Liverpool Hospital Expanded Emergency Department taking shape
The transformation and expansion of Liverpool Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) is making excellent progress this year.
Once complete the ED will deliver a significant increase in the number of treatment spaces, including resuscitation spaces, as part of the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct redevelopment.
Liverpool Hospital General Manager Scott McGrath was excited preparations are well underway for the next phase of the ED’s ongoing redevelopment.
“This incredible project, a key feature of our hospital’s redevelopment, will significantly increase our capacity to provide, safe, high-quality and patient-centred care to our community,’’ he said.
“We look forward to continued progress and thank our staff and patients for their support and patience while construction is underway in the ED.’’
By mid-year, the completion of the next stage of the ED refurbishment will allow for enhanced paediatric services and an expansion of the early assessment zone. This will include opening new waiting areas within the department, enhancing patient experience.
Emergency Department Director Alex Mackey said staff were eagerly awaiting the opening of the new spaces within the ED.
“This is a complex, ongoing project – with continual moves within the department as works start and are completed – but we are now seeing some great progress,’’ Dr Mackey said.
“Our ED will have state-of-the-art treatment spaces and access to world-class technology when the entire project is completed.’’
The ED will also include an older person’s zone, behavioural assessment zone and acute zone, as well as enhanced medical imaging capacity, as refurbishment works are progressively completed.
