Main works contractor appointed for Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment
The Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment has taken a key step forward with the appointment of the main works contractor.
Construction firm Icon SI (Aust) Pty Ltd will lead the delivery of the project, with work to commence in the coming months.
The design has been informed by extensive consultation with staff, health professionals, patients and Aboriginal community representatives.
The NSW Government has committed $200 million for the redevelopment which will provide modern health facilities and expanded services to meet the needs of communities across Central West NSW, including:
- An expanded Emergency Department
- Expanded Maternity services, including Special Care Nursery
- A new modern non-acute mental health inpatient unit (Panorama Clinic)
- Improved inpatient, outpatient and community health services
- Operating theatres
- Expanded cardiology services
- A new paediatrics zone
- New main entry and cafe
To support accessibility, more than 70 additional car parking spaces will be delivered onsite and in surrounding streets, including 46 new spaces at key locations. This will add to the existing 306 spaces for staff, patients and visitors and improve access to both the new hospital entry and the existing entrance.
The appointment of Icon SI follows planning approval for the redevelopment earlier this year.
A strong focus will be placed on engaging local trades, suppliers and subcontractors throughout construction to maximise the economic benefits of the project. Icon SI will partner with Lipman, which has a local Bathurst office, to support regional participation.
The project is expected to create hundreds of jobs during construction and beyond, supporting both the local economy and workforce. Information sessions will be held for local businesses to outline upcoming work packages, pre-qualification requirements and how to register interest in subcontracting opportunities.
Main works construction is expected to be completed in 2028.
