Main works planning application for Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital new Clinical Services Building now on exhibition

Set to transform healthcare delivery across the Border region, the purpose-built contemporary facility is the centrepiece of the $558 million Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital Project, jointly funded by the Australian, NSW and Victorian Governments.

Representing one of the largest regional hospital investments delivered in NSW, it will significantly expand health services, bed capacity and specialist care for the growing region.

The new seven-storey Clinical Services Building will link to the existing Albury Hospital and the new Northeast Building, creating a modern and better-connected health campus. 

The new multi-storey building will feature:

• 110 additional overnight beds, including medical, surgical and mental health beds, as well as expanded emergency care capacity
• Advanced digital operating theatres, including a hybrid theatre for complex procedures and a new procedure room
• A new state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit
• A new cardiac catheterisation laboratory and procedure room
• Enhanced maternity services, including new birthing suites and a special care nursery, bringing women’s and newborn services together at Albury
• A new 32-bed Mental Health Unit, replacing and expanding services currently provided at Nolan House Expanded allied health and outpatient facilities
• A welcoming new hospital entry connected to country with landscaped outdoor areas and enhanced retail and visitor amenities.

More than 2,500 people including health services staff, clinicians, patients, carers, families, community members, local councils, Aboriginal community representatives and other stakeholder groups have helped shape the planning and design for the project.

Community and clinical staff feedback has informed the project, resulting in an increase in inpatient bed capacity, and design enhancements that support more efficient staff workflows, and enhance both patient and visitor experiences.

The hospital's eight-hectare site has been planned to support the community into the future, providing significant capacity for expansion, ensuring the campus can continue to grow with the needs of the community.

The project will deliver a significant increase in street-level parking spaces on the campus, boosting capacity by over 300 additional spaces to around 1,000 spaces. The additional parking spaces will improve access to key services, including the Albury Regional Cancer Centre, Emergency Department and to the new Clinical Services Building. 

Patients, visitors, and staff are already benefiting from additional onsite car parking at the Albury Hospital campus, with more than 120 additional parking spaces now available on the Borella Road verge, with further spaces being delivered progressively throughout the year. 

Community members are encouraged to attend information sessions to learn more about the project, meet the project team and provide feedback.

• Tuesday 1 September 2026 2.00pm - 4.30pm - West End Plaza, Albury
• Wednesday 2 September 2026 10.00am - 12.30pm - Lavington Square, Lavington
• Thursday 3 September 2026 10.00am - 12.30pm - Wodonga Plaza, Wodonga 
• Thursday 3 September 2026 1.30pm - 3.30pm - Birallee Village Shopping Centre, West Wodonga

The planning application and supporting technical documents are available to view online and feedback can be provided until 11.59 Monday 14 September 2026. 

The tender process for the main works construction contract commenced earlier this year and a detailed evaluation is currently under way. The construction contractor is expected to be awarded in the coming months.

Construction of the new Clinical Services Building is expected to commence in early 2027, following planning approval, the appointment of the main works contractor and the relocation of services into the new Northeast Building.

Construction is progressing for the Northeast Building, due to be completed in late 2026. This follows the recent completion of 21 new key health worker accommodation units, helping to strengthen the local healthcare workforce and support the delivery of health services in the region.
