Creating connections 

A new phase of work has begun that will support the connection of the existing hospital to the new building with three link bridges. 

There will be 3 connection points, and the work will include installation of scaffold before removal of small section of the façade at the points indicated below. The departments being impacted are being consulted closely about what they should expect. All work will be staged to minimise disruption. 

Once completed, the level 1 link bridge will mostly be used by back of house and support services staff. The level 2 link bridge will be the future main access from the existing facility into the new building, and the level 3 link bridge will mostly be used by clinical staff. 

A new lift coming soon 

We are building a second lift and the start of a covered walkway that will lead visitors from the carpark to the new hospital entrance (see the image below). The current lift is still available and visitors can follow the signs to the nearby walkways. Stage 1 of these works is scheduled for completion in September 2024. 

Meet the women building our hospital 

Women employed on the project are contributing valuable skills and building their careers, making up 16% of the workers on site each day. They are employed in a diverse range of roles including project management, procurement, site supervision, carpentry and transport.
