Name the Cranes at Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct
Primary school children from the Liverpool Local Government Area are invited to get creative and name the two towering cranes dominating the skyline at Liverpool Hospital.
Two tower cranes have been installed at the Liverpool Heath and Academic Precinct site to support construction of the new Integrated Services Building.
The NSW Government is investing $930 million in the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct to meet growing health care needs of the community and showcase Liverpool Hospital as a hub for innovation and medical research.
The cranes were delivered in parts, assembled on site and are now a prominent landmark across the health campus. The electric-powered cranes have a reach of 75 metres and can lift 12 tonnes – the equivalent of around six cars, or an anchor of a cruise ship.
To celebrate the arrival of the machines, children from 5-12 years who live locally, attend a local school or are the children of a Liverpool Hospital staff member have the chance to enter the Name the Cranes competition. Two names will be selected, one for each crane.
The winning names will be displayed on the two cranes for the community to see throughout the project.

When complete the new multi-storey Integrated Services Building will include integrated cancer services, new inpatient units, and women’s and children’s ambulatory care.
The new building will seamlessly connect to the new five-storey hospital building delivered in Phase 1 of the project, which includes an expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), new birthing suites, and a new centralised Pathology Department.
Construction of the new building is expected to be completed in 2028, followed by a program of refurbishment works within existing buildings.
The Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct is being delivered by Health Infrastructure and South Western Sydney Local Health District with Lendlease the building contractor for the project.
