The Nepean Hospital Redevelopment is progressing well
Construction continues to progress for the Nepean Redevelopment with Member for Penrith, Karen McKeown OAM recently attending the Nepean Redevelopment site for an update on construction progress.
The more than $1 billion redevelopment is delivering a major expansion and upgrade of hospital and community-based health services for the Nepean Blue Mountains community.
Stage 2 of the redevelopment includes the construction of a seven-storey clinical building that will feature:
- Intensive care unit
- Medical imaging and nuclear medicine
- In-centre rental dialysis unit
- Education and training facilities
- A new triple-height main entry and reception area for the hospital with under-cover drop off zone and green spaces.
The top floor will be a dedicated Palliative Care unit as part of the World-Class End of Life Care program. Construction on this building is expected to be completed in late 2026. Construction is also progressing on the Nepean Child and Adolescent Mental Health unit as part of the Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure program.
The dedicated mental health facility will provide specialist inpatient care for young people aged 12 – 17 experiencing mental health challenges.
The unit will include:
- 10 patient bedrooms
- therapeutic spaces and consultation rooms
- indoor and outdoor communal spaces, and
- family and carer spaces to support holistic care.
The facility has been designed in collaboration with young people, families and carers to design a facility that has safety, well-being and dignity at its core.
Construction is on track for completion later this year.
