Nepean Hospital’s new 14-storey hospital tower is complete
The $1 billion Nepean Hospital redevelopment has reached a major milestone with construction of the new 14-storey tower now complete.
The milestone officially marks the end of the first stage of works for the world-class health facility. The 100-metre-high tower is Penrith's tallest landmark and one of the tallest hospital buildings in Australia and includes:
- an expanded emergency department
- eighteen birthing suites
- a neo-natal intensive care unit
- seventeen new operating theatres
- more than 200 additional beds
- a rooftop helipad.
With construction now complete, a comprehensive commissioning plan is underway, with hospital staff preparing services for a staged move into the new facility over the coming months.
The major expansion and upgrade of Nepean Hospital will future-proof healthcare to meet the needs of the Western Sydney and Blue Mountains communities.
Construction of Stage 2 of the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment will start this year after the Stage 1 tower opens. The second building has been designed to seamlessly connect to the new tower to enhance the patient flow and experience.
Nepean Redevelopment Stage 2 will include:
- a new intensive care unit
- in-centre renal dialysis unit
- medical imaging
- nuclear medicine services
- cardiology services
- more beds
- community health services
- front of house for the hospital.
As part of the NSW Government's Stage 2 fast-track funding announcement in October 2020, cardiology services and an additional in-patient floor have been incorporated into the Stage 1 tower and will also be opening this year.
Construction on these floors in the tower will continue over the coming months.
