Nepean Redevelopment Project Update August 2026
In this edition, we spotlight the network of thoughtfully designed and welcoming outdoor spaces when the new Stage 2 building opens. We also share the upcoming construction milestones as well as a new visual graphic showing the services and their location in the new building.
Spotlight on the new outdoor spaces coming to Nepean Hospital
Patients, families and staff at Nepean Hospital will benefit from a network of thoughtfully designed and welcoming outdoor spaces that bring nature closer to care.
Featuring approximately 180 new trees and 23,000 shrubs and ground cover plants, the green spaces at Nepean Hospital are a key component of Stage 2 of the Nepean Redevelopment which, includes a new seven-storey hospital building.
Adam Fitzpatrick, CPB Contractors Area Manager, who coordinated much of the construction of the Nepean Hospital Stage 2 Redevelopment is excited to see the landscape plans come to life.

From welcoming entry gardens featuring sandstone blocks in a yarning circle and landscaped courtyards to sprawling outdoor terraces, the hospital’s outdoor spaces have been designed to support wellbeing and provide places for rest and reflection.
Mr Fitzpatrick said he hoped the outdoor spaces provided a welcoming space for staff and patients.
"The vision for the outdoor spaces at Nepean Stage 2 has always been to create a healing landscape which responds to the needs of patients and staff, anchors the new building within the broader hospital campus, and actively enhances the local environment through extensive tree and garden bed planting," Mr Fitzpatrick said.
New Stage 2 building nearing completion
The countdown is on for the new Stage 2 building with construction on track to be completed in the coming weeks. We spoke to Nepean Redevelopment Operational Commissioning Manager, Zena Wilson, about what the next few months will look like as the project reaches this exciting milestone.
"We are excited to welcome the community into the new Stage 2 building, which will seamlessly integrate with the existing 14-storey Stage 1 building," Ms Wilson said.
"When it opens, the building will feature a new main entry and reception area creating a clear front door for the hospital."

In addition to the new main entry, the seven-storey building includes an adult intensive care unit, paediatric ward, medical imaging and molecular imaging services, renal dialysis, education and training facilities, and a range of clinical support services.
"In the coming weeks, we're expecting the new Stage 2 building to be completed, which is a really exciting milestone for the project, " Ms Wilson said.
"Following construction completion, the building will go through a handover process, marking the transfer of ownership from the builder to Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

"Once construction is complete and handover has occurred, a staged commissioning process for each service to prepare the building to welcome staff and its first patients."
Community members will have the opportunity to step inside the new building at our Public Open Day later this year.
The event will give visitors a chance to tour the new facilities, learn more about the services delivered in the building, and speak with staff involved in the redevelopment. Stay tuned for more details.
Thank you for your support and patience as we progress Stage 2 of the Nepean Redevelopment.
