Nepean Redevelopment Project Zone update December 2025
Summary of the latest Nepean Hospital Redevelopment construction activities in December 2025.
The future is looking bright for Kingswood High School students
As part of our commitment to community engagement, the Nepean Redevelopment team has partnered again with Kingswood High School for a maths in health design project.
On the 27 November, Year 9 maths students and their teacher Mr Bavaro came to Nepean Hospital to present their ideas on how to design and build a welcoming and sustainable Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Unit.
The judges of the student presentations were Vanessa Clements, Director of Planning, Redevelopment and Strategic Office, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, Matt Russell, Director of Mental Health, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District and Tim Shoolman, Senior Project Director, Health Infrastructure.
Congratulations to Madison Forbes, Thanushree Chopparapu, Sienna Guilfoyle and Keira Wheadon, for their winning presentation, “Roots and Wings Unit – where healing takes root and confidence takes flight."
The redevelopment team was impressed with all the student’s creativity and knowledge of the student’s mathematics. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed being on this journey with Kingswood High School and look forward to future partnerships.
Access changes to Building A: temporary link-bridge closure
From 7am on 3 December, the temporary link-bridge to Building A is closed to progress construction of the new hospital building.
A new temporary access route has been established via Level 1, Building E, with wayfinding signage and seating areas added along the route to support patients and visitors.
This new access pathway will be in place for several months until construction is completed on a permanent, more direct connection into Building A.
A few important things to note:
- Please follow the bright yellow directional signage
- Best patient drop off is outside Building E
- Best car park is P5 for patients and visitor
- Seating is available along the pathway
- Please note: Emergency Department access is not changing

New Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Unit edges closer to completion
The final stages of construction on the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Unit are underway.
- Recent progress includes:
- Landscaping works including the installation of external entry stairs and ramps
- Joinery in the bedrooms, common areas and back of house staff areas
- Vinyl flooring is complete
- Internal entry way tiling is nearly complete
- The fit-out of the patient courtyard works are advancing
Once these works are compete, the next phase will be focused on finishing touches including furnishings and artwork.
A public open day to preview the new unit will be scheduled in February 2026. Stay tuned!
The hospital's upgraded loading dock opens
In another exciting development, the new hospital loading dock is now complete.
The new loading dock is four times larger than the hospital's previous one. This essential infrastructure will support the hospital’s operations and logistics, ensuring smooth delivery of supplies and services once the new Stage 2 building is operational.
A major breakthrough for Stage 2 of the Nepean Redevelopment
Builders have broken through the walls to connect the new seven-storey Stage 2 building with the existing 14-storey hospital tower.
The breakthrough from Building A tower into the new Stage 2 building will connect on several floors to create a seamless, accessible and welcoming hospital for everyone who will walk through the hospital’s new main entry doors.
Graeme Pearson, Project Coordinator, Health Infrastructure said the new building will connect to the existing hospital tower from levels one to seven.
“The two buildings will become one integrated facility, known as Building A, sharing one large, open triple-storey main entry and reception area," Graeme said.
"When complete, the connection to both buildings will improve access through the hospital for staff, patients and their families."

Construction powers ahead on the new Stage 2 building
Exciting progress continues at Nepean Redevelopment with works progressing on the new seven-storey Stage 2 building's façade featuring terracotta panels.
The main staircase in the three-storey atrium is almost complete.
On Levels 1 to 3, progress continues with the installation of joinery, ceiling panels, staff stations and medical service panels. Internal works are also progressing nicely in the new Education Training Centre.
The builders have also made good progress to the new palliative care unit on Level 7 with inpatient rooms, communal spaces and staff areas starting to take shape.
