New Stage 2 building powers ahead 

Exciting progress continues at the Nepean Redevelopment, with services installed, walls and joinery taking shape, and internal finishes now well underway ahead of completion in late 2026.

At the same time, planning for operational commissioning has already begun - a critical step for large, complex hospital builds - ensuring staff are ready to safely and efficiently transition into the new facility.

Early activities such as familiarisation tours are giving clinical teams a first look at their future work spaces, helping them understand the scale, layout and patient flow well before the builder hands over the keys. This early engagement is key to delivering a seamless move and ensuring the new hospital is fully prepared to care for the community from day one.

Consumers tour new Stage 2 building

Members of the Nepean Redevelopment Consumer Committee were given a behind-the-scenes look at the new Stage 2 building during a site tour on Thursday 23 April, marking an exciting milestone for a group that has supported the project since its earliest planning stages.

The committee, which plays an important role in representing community voices and providing feedback on design and patient experience, visited key areas including the new main entry, Changing Places facility and palliative care unit.

A Changing Places facility is a fully accessible bathroom designed for people with high support needs, featuring specialised equipment like a height-adjustable changing bench, ceiling hoist and additional space for carers.

The committee’s long-standing involvement has helped shape a hospital that better meets the needs of patients, carers and families. The visit offered a valuable opportunity to see firsthand how their input is coming to life in the future hospital.

Spotlight on the new palliative care unit as part of National Palliative Care Week

In recognition of National Palliative Care Week, we’re proud to share progress on the new palliative care unit taking shape on Level 7 of the hospital redevelopment.

This dedicated palliative care unit is a first for Nepean Hospital and a great addition to the amazing palliative care service Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District already provides.  

End of Life and Palliative Care Project Manager Linda Ora says the unit is being “designed as a place where patients, families and carers feel genuinely supported during some of life’s most challenging moments."

"Bringing together a dedicated care team, thoughtful design and strong links with community services, the space will prioritise symptom management, emotional support and family connection,” Linda said.

Once complete, it will provide a purpose-built environment focused on compassionate, holistic care at every stage.
