Nepean Redevelopment Project Zone update November 2025
Summary of the latest Nepean Hospital Redevelopment construction activities in November 2025.
This month, we take an in-depth look at inpatient rooms and carers suite at the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Unit as it edges closer to completion. We also share a recent staff and community pop up and morning tea at the Nepean Redevelopment office and give an update on construction progress at the new Stage 2 building, palliative care unit and CAMHS Unit.
Inside the new carer’s suite and inpatient rooms at the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Unit
The new carer’s suite and inpatient bedrooms at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Unit reflect the lived experience of young people and families, and how to best support them during difficult moments in their lives.
The new purpose-built unit at Nepean Hospital will offer short stay care for those aged 12 to 17 experiencing significant mental health issues.
For Sarah Gilmore, 24, and her mother Susan Dunham, who have both been involved in the project from the beginning, the development of the unit is deeply personal.

Sarah and Susan first got involved in the project when Sarah was 18 after recent experience being cared for in the Child Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) in Penrith. Her younger brother Benjamin was also being treated at CYMHS at the time.
“We thought why not get involved if we can make it better for other kids in the future,” Sarah said.
The new CAMHS unit will feature 10 inpatient rooms with ensuites, with two of the rooms being specifically designed for consumers with accessibility requirements.
Each bedroom is thoughtfully crafted to feel welcoming and non-clinical including desks, a whiteboard and shelving for personal displays and objects from home.
New Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Unit edges closer to completion
Construction of the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Unit is steadily progressing, with completion on track for late 2025.
Recent progress include:
- Landscaping underway, alongside the installation of external entry stairs and ramps.
- Joinery installation continues in bedrooms and common areas.
- Flooring is complete in ensuites and bedrooms, with work ongoing in shared spaces.
- Courtyard works are advancing, with tiling finished and external finishes taking shape.
Once construction wraps up, the unit will enter its operational commissioning phase—bringing us one step closer to delivering this vital facility for young people (aged 12 – 17) and their carers/families.
New Palliative Care Unit one step closer
Work to deliver a brand new dedicated Palliative Care Unit at Nepean Hospital is one step closer with construction underway following the appointment of the main works contractor.
CPB Contractors, the main works contractor currently delivering Stage 2 of Nepean Redevelopment, has been engaged to build the new Palliative Care Unit as an integrated fit out within the new Stage 2 building.
Staff within the new unit will provide specialist palliative care services while supporting the privacy, comfort, and dignity of people with a life-limiting illness who have complex symptoms and/or end-of-life care needs.

The new palliative care unit which is on the top floor of the new Stage 2 building, will feature large single and double bedrooms with ensuites and include a rooftop courtyard, as well as family-orientated shared spaces to create a supportive, comfortable and inclusive setting for patients, families and carers.
The new purpose-built palliative care unit at Nepean Hospital is part of the NSW Government’s $93 million World-class End of Life Care program, which will deliver new and redeveloped palliative care facilities at a number of hospitals across the state.
Construction on the new Palliative Care Unit will progress concurrently with construction of the Nepean Hospital Stage 2 building.
Construction powers ahead on the new Stage 2 building
Exciting progress continues at Nepean Redevelopment with works progressing on the new seven-storey Stage 2 building's façade and the triple-height glass main entry.
Inside the building, the main entry atrium continues to take shape with the addition of the glass balustrade to Level 2 and framed glass to Level 3.
On levels 1 and 2, the floor coverings are beginning to be installed, providing a near complete feel to these spaces.
In the new Intensive Care Unit on Level 5, the close observation rooms are beginning to take their shape with glass being installed to each of the bed bays.
Outside, work continues on the exterior façade with the final coverings to commence installation later this year and continuing into the new year.
Last weekend, we said goodbye to the tower crane that has been used to construct the new Stage 2 building, marking a significant milestone in onsite activity and progress towards completion. The second tower crane was first installed in November 2024 to assist the assembly building’s steel and concrete structure.
The new hospital loading dock is also close to completion with handover expected in coming weeks. This essential infrastructure will support the hospital’s operations and logistics, ensuring smooth delivery of supplies and services once the building is operational.
Hospital pop-up and morning tea with Nepean Redevelopment team
The Nepean Redevelopment team recently hosted a pop-up event and morning tea in the Nepean Redevelopment office, giving staff and visitors a bird's eye view of the new Stage 2 building as well as a chance for hospital staff members and the community to ask questions and speak directly with members of the project team.
Our next pop up will be in early 2026. These events are an important way to keep staff and the community informed and involved, especially as construction continues to transform the hospital.
Whether you're curious about timelines, design features, or how services will be impacted, the pop-up is your chance to get answers and be part of the journey.
