Nepean Redevelopment Project Zone update September 2025
Summary of the latest Nepean Hospital Redevelopment construction activities in September 2025.
This month, we hosted the Member for Penrith Karen McKeown to celebrate construction of the Stage 2 building reaching its highest point. We also share a new video about outdoor spaces at the hospital, a new initiative supporting female subcontractors at the Nepean Redevelopment site and provide an update on construction progress at the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Unit.
New Stage 2 building reaches highest point
Nepean Hospital Redevelopment has reached a major milestone, with construction of the new 7-storey Stage 2 building reaching its highest point.
Member for Penrith Karen McKeown attended a traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony at the new clinical building, joined by the Nepean Redevelopment team as well as representatives from Health Infrastructure, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District and CPB Contractors.
While onsite, Ms McKeown talked with our passionate consumer advocate, Matt Roger about how the new main entry for the hospital has been designed to create an accessible and welcoming space for everyone.

In addition to the triple-height main entry atrium, the new Stage 2 building will include essential health services such as a new adult intensive care unit, additional in-patient beds, medical imaging and nuclear medicine services, in-centre renal dialysis and staff education and training facilities.
The top level of the building will include a new, purpose-built palliative care unit, delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $93 million World-class End of Life Care program.
The new hospital building will seamlessly connect to the existing 14 storey hospital tower delivered as part of Stage 1, enhancing access to health services for patients, visitors and staff.
The topping out ceremony follows the recent removal of one of the tower cranes, signalling a shift in construction focus with the bulk of the steel and concrete in place. The remaining tower crane will stay onsite until the end of construction.
Construction for the Stage 2 building is expected to be completed in late 2026, and will open to patients, staff and visitors following an operational commissioning period.
Healing in nature: outdoor spaces at Nepean Hospital
Outdoor spaces are being thoughtfully designed to support healing, wellbeing, and connection as part of Stage 2 of the Nepean Redevelopment.
We spoke to Clinical Lead Dr Nhi Nguyen and General Services Manager at Nepean Hospital Joshua Howarth to find out more about how green courtyards and open-air zones will enhance the hospital experience for patients, staff, and visitors.

Celebrating women in construction on-site
Labourer Sallie Oxborough has made it her mission to create a safe space for women at the Nepean Redevelopment site.
Sallie, who operates the hoist at the Stage 2 Nepean Redevelopment site, said she has been in the construction industry for many years and saw there were several women working at the site who didn't know each other.
"While we're a minority in the industry, I realised there was a lot of women on site so we created a group and got together for a lunch. It was great to have a chat, get to know each other and create a support system to share wins and learn from each other," Sallie said.
Named 'Women of Nepean,' the group includes engineers, electricians, labourers, plumbers and apprentices working at the Nepean Redevelopment site.
Honouring the past, building the future
As part of the Stage 2 Nepean Redevelopment, our team is working with the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District to deliver refurbished storage and display spaces to support the Nepean Hospital Archives Volunteers in preserving and sharing the hospital’s rich history for generations to come. Thank you to our volunteers for your passion and dedication!
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Unit one step closer
Across the campus, construction is progressing well on the new purpose-built Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Unit.
The external brickwork is almost complete, and other façade works are well underway. Inside, the unit is coming to life — ceiling and window framing is complete, glazing is being installed, internal walls complete, flooring preparation underway for all areas, and work to the external courtyards has commenced.
Next to the CAMHS building, the new Total Asset Management (TAM) building is making good progress. All three concrete slab pours are complete, and steel framing is complete and roofing and internal walls are underway. The TAM building will house hospital maintenance staff and their equipment.
