New Bankstown Hospital Project Update December 2025
Catch up with the latest news from the new Bankstown Hospital project – in this issue, concept design, community information sessions and site tours.
First look at new hospital layout

The community has been given a 'first look' at the floor plans for the new Bankstown Hospital.
Called a concept design, the floor plans show the main departments on each level, and how they relate to each other.
The design provides a strong connection to the existing city centre with Emergency Department, main entry and outpatients on the lower levels with direct links to parking.
Operating theatres, intensive care, and pathology are in the middle levels of the building for easy access to the wards above, and the Emergency Department below.
Patient wards (inpatient units) are located on the upper levels for maximum light and views.
The final hospital design and number of parking spaces will be confirmed when a builder is appointed.
Consumers and staff shape design

It's been a busy couple of months with workshops, information sessions and consultation under way for the design of the new hospital building.
Thanks to the hospital's terrific Consumer and Community Participation Network members who recently attended briefings and workshops. Their feedback has been invaluable and we're looking forward to their participation in the upcoming room design meetings.
We also welcomed more than 250 hospital visitors, community members, patients and staff to the drop-in sessions at the hospital and Bankstown Central shopping centre.
An engagement feedback report will be shared in 2026 to explain how we used community feedback to shape the new hospital design.
Chinese community information session

Bankstown Hospital Intensive Care Nurse Unit Manager Jinru Sun was guest speaker at two Chinese community information sessions.
She provided a project update in Mandarin for about 50 people at Padstow.
She was joined at the Revesby group by Jasmine Enright from SWSLHD Multicultural Health, who co-presented in Cantonese.
Many thanks to the wonderful community members who gave us such a warm welcome!

Design innovation on show

Bankstown Hospital staff recently visited some of Sydney's best new hospital buildings to see the latest design innovations in areas such as intensive care, patient bedrooms, sterilising and operating theatres.
The team will use their new-found knowledge in consultation meetings to design the new Bankstown Hospital facilities.

Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue
Thanks to the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue for the recent invitation to present to around 100 local community and business leaders, who were keen to hear about opportunities for clinical innovation, research, education and training.
NSW Minister for Health Ryan Park used the opportunity to launch the hospital's concept designs.
Health Infrastructure Chief Executive Emma Skulander said the new building will be one of the state's "most sustainable hospital projects".
The project will include measures to repurpose construction waste, reduce urban heat, prioritise the use of solar panels, and provide EV chargers for vehicles.
For South Western Sydney Local Health District Chief Executive Sonia Marshall, the priority is "to service the health needs of current and future generations".
"It is clear that the hospital redevelopments in our district have become a catalyst for innovation and growth in the clinical, research, education and training sectors,’’ Ms Marshall said.
Education was also on the agenda for Western Sydney University with plans for a new health faculty for Bankstown to "train and retain" a local health care workforce.
The new hospital project is expected to create more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs.
