New Health Worker Accommodation Completed for Albury-Wodonga and Border Communities
Healthcare workers will soon benefit from new purpose-built accommodation with construction of 21 units now complete at Albury Hospital, delivering a major boost for the border region’s health workforce.
The $9.5 million key health worker accommodation project has been delivered in partnership with $7.5 million from the Australian Government and $2 million from the NSW Government.
Each fully furnished, self-contained unit is designed for comfort, featuring bright open plan living, a modern kitchen, ensuite bedroom, internal laundry and screened veranda.
This will help attract and retain essential health workers, while offering a convenient place to stay close to work.
With construction now complete and ready to welcome healthcare staff in coming months, these new units will support both immediate healthcare delivery and the region’s long-term future.
Built using off site modular construction, the units were recently installed over four nights, minimising disruption to hospital operations.
The project highlights strong local collaboration between Albury Wodonga Health, Health Infrastructure, Zauner Construction and Yarrawonga Housing which will support jobs, investment, and quality construction across the region.
The new accommodation complements the $558 million Albury Wodonga Regional Hospital redevelopment, one of the largest regional health investments across New South Wales and Victoria—bringing more beds, parking, and world-class facilities to the region.
By being a drawcard for health workers, these units will support the new and enhanced health services unlocked by the redevelopment, supporting healthcare delivery now and into the future.
Patients, visitors, and staff are also benefiting from additional onsite car parking at the Albury Hospital campus.
More than 120 additional parking spaces are now available on the Borella Road verge, with further spaces being delivered progressively throughout the year.
Approximately 50 parking spaces that were required to facilitate the key worker accommodation construction compound have also been reopened for public use, maximising parking availability on the hospital site.
The Australian Government’s contribution for the new key worker accommodation has been funded through Regional Development Victoria, as part of the Albury Wodonga Regional Projects Program.
The NSW Government’s contribution has been funded as part of the Key Health Worker Accommodation Program, supporting the workforce needed to care for growing regional communities.
