Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Redevelopment Construction Activities - Birth Centre
As part of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Redevelopment project, refurbishment works within the Birth Centre (Level 3, Building 89) are scheduled to commence on Monday 23 February 2026, with construction activities continuing throughout 2026.
Works will take place within a designated construction zone on Level 3 of the existing hospital building to facilitate the reconfiguration of the new hospital, including future northern arrival.
Standard construction hours are 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
Site access will be maintained through existing builders’ access points and will not impact public thoroughfares.
Construction activities will include:
- Establishment and delineation of the work zone
- Installation of hoarding and protective barriers to ensure a fully sealed work area
- Isolation and making services safe
- Demolition of walls, ceilings, and flooring (scheduled to commence mid‑March 2026)
Following demolition, refurbishment and fit‑out works will begin, including installation of essential services, wall construction, ceilings, flooring, and fixtures.
To minimise disruption, the following mitigation measures will be implemented:
- Use of equipment designed to reduce noise and vibration
- Scheduling noisy works early in the day to avoid peak periods
- Sealed perimeter hoarding to contain noise and dust
- Sticky mats to minimise dust transfer
- Compliance with noise and vibration management standards
