Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Redevelopment - Out-of-hours works – RPA Hospital, central courtyard, from July 2026
To support the refurbishment works being undertaken as part of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Redevelopment project, intermittent night works will soon commence in the central courtyard.
Scope of works
The central courtyard is being refurbished to deliver an improved outdoor space for staff and patients to enjoy. The space will expand landscaped areas across the campus and provide a more direct connection from the Missenden Road entrance to the future East Tower.
To enable this, upcoming activities will involve tower crane movements, equipment and machinery use, façade installation works, followed by refurbishment works.
Timing
Approved out-of-hours works are expected to commence between 6pm and 5am from Thursday 23 July 2026, weather permitting, and are anticipated to take approximately three months to complete.
What you may notice
- Localised noise and vibration impacts are expected throughout the works, with mitigation measures in place wherever possible.
- Use of on-site machinery and equipment, including the tower crane
- Generator-powered site lighting will be used to ensure safety during night works
- To minimise noise impacts, steel bolts will be tightened by hand during out-of-hours works. Final tightening using power tools will be completed during standard construction hours.
Control measures
We are committed to minimising the impact of our works. We have health and safety monitoring and protocols in place across the redevelopment, and we endeavour to keep noise, dust and vibration to a minimum.
To ensure the continued safe and uninterrupted operation of the hospital, the following mitigation measures will be implemented:
- Co-ordination and communication to relevant departments
- Timing of works planned and communicated so that patients can close blinds if required
- Escalation protocols in place in case of emergency or incidents.
