Hi all, I’m Mitch, a Cadet here in Newcastle.
We’re currently on the western side of the Acute Services Building, where the mammoth hoist is helping us reach new heights.
The hoist on this job plays a key role in moving materials, equipment and people throughout the different levels of the ISB.
This project involves a total of five material hoists and three man hoists. The largest lift on site is performed by the former hoist, with the heaviest load weighing a whopping 6,000 kilograms — that’s equivalent to a large African elephant!
Hi everyone, I’m Patrick, a Cadet currently on my document control rotation.
I’m standing here at Basement 4, Stair 2, where we’ll be pouring our first set of stairs by the end of the week.
We’ll be using what’s called a Stairmaster — a large steel frame that allows us to pour over 1,000 stairs with precision and efficiency. It’s a step-by-step process that helps save time while ensuring quality.
Hi everyone, my name is Ethan and I’m a Design Graduate at Multiplex.
Here in the site office, our design team has been working together to review the many internal room layout sheets. These showcase the final arrangement of fixtures and equipment within the new Acute Services Building.
To give you an idea, there are over 2,000 room layout sheets on this project, covering disciplines such as medical gas, hydraulics, mechanical, nurse call, and security, just to name a few.
We’ve now reached about the halfway point in reviewing these sheets and can’t wait to see these rooms come to life here at the John Hunter footprint.
Thanks.
G’day everyone. Welcome back to not-so-sunny Newcastle.
My name is Connor and I’m a Cadet with Multiplex on the project.
We’ve just hit another exciting milestone as we prepare to pour the first of our Level 00 ground floor slabs. This will be our first clinical level, and the area you can see behind me will be the new ambulance triage area.
At this stage of the structure, we’ve completed around 80% of our basement pours, with only five remaining. The team is working towards pouring the final basement slab in mid-March.
Hi everyone, I’m Joseph, a Cadet here on the project.
We’re standing on the west side of the hospital campus, on the western road network, where construction of the southern roundabout and retained earth walls is in full swing. We’re retaining our excitement as we see the walls take shape!
Panel installation on the Aretaining wall and block laying at the southern roundabout have been progressing steadily. The two walls are now meeting with staggered concrete infills being poured between them.
Additionally, blockwork has also commenced around the southeast side of the Forensics Building, supporting the structure that will link the roundabout to Kookaburra Circuit.
The Aretaining wall has about one metre of panel installation and fill remaining, while the southern roundabout has three metres of blockwork and fill to complete before the high-level road works begin in the coming months.
Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for future updates from the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct.
Thanks, everyone!
