Westmead car park wins NSW Master Builders Award
The 'Dragonfly' car park has won the Car Parks category in the NSW Master Builders Awards. The eight level multi-storey car park was delivered as part of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead Stage 2 Redevelopment.
Significant and thoughtful investments in technology, sustainable infrastructure and art have been integrated into the project.
Local aboriginal artist Leanne Tobin created the dragonfly motifs featured on the façade of the car park, while Leanne Redpath created collections of symbols within the lift waiting areas of the car park, including river reeds, gathering circles, and the sun – all connected to Country and the local Parramatta River.
In addition, solar panels are installed on both the façade and roof, harnessing green and renewable energy to power the hospital.
Alongside the car park is one of the three playgrounds being delivered as part of the Stage 2 redevelopment. Its close proximity to a sensory playground, which opened in 2023, has created a haven of outdoor play opportunities for families seeking respite from clinical settings.
