Wyong Hospital Redevelopment Stage 3 and expanded Cancer Centre now complete
Works on the third and final stage of the $200 million Wyong Hospital Redevelopment and an expansion of the Wyong Cancer Centre are complete, marking a major milestone in delivering accessible and patient-centred healthcare closer to home for Central Coast communities.
This milestone builds on already delivered infrastructure and service upgrades launched in 2021 and 2022.
NSW Premier Chris Minns and Minister for the Central Coast David Harris visited Wyong Hospital earlier this week to tour the new and expanded health services.
Stage 3 of the redevelopment includes a range of new and enhanced health facilities and services including:
- expansion of the Wyong Cancer Centre
- a new women’s outpatient service
- an expanded pathology laboratory
- dedicated space for the Nunyara Aboriginal Health Unit
- dedicated space for the Carer Support Unit
- new medical workspaces
The $6.4 million expansion of the Wyong Cancer Centre is enabling more residents on the Central Coast access to vital care services closer to home. It features eight new consultation rooms and provides services including chemotherapy administration, and specialist consultations.
The new Wyong Women’s Outpatients service provides a purpose-built space for antenatal clinics. A range of additional services, including an Early Pregnancy Assessment Service, a Day Assessment Unit, expanded outpatient services for high-risk pregnancies and a broader range of gynaecological procedures will be introduced in a staged approach.
The hospital’s pathology laboratory has been expanded to meet growing demand and includes new chemical pathology analysers, which test blood and other fluids to help diagnose and monitor a wide range of health conditions.
For the first time at Wyong Hospital, a dedicated space has been delivered for the Nunyara Aboriginal Health Unit and several important services will operate out of the unit, including the Aboriginal Complex Care Team, Aboriginal hospital liaison officers, the Aboriginal Palliative Care Service and Aboriginal cancer care coordinator.
Nunyara features two consult rooms to provide a wide range of health clinics to support the health needs of the local Aboriginal community and are expected to open in early 2026. An Aboriginal cultural lounge will also be available to all patients and visitors to Wyong Hospital.
A new dedicated space has also been created for the Carer Support Unit to provide a welcoming space for carers, featuring a lounge, business centre, quiet room, shower facilities and meeting area for group activities.
The redevelopment also includes a new medical workspace designed to support clinical teams with modern, purpose-built office and meeting areas, offering a more functional and collaborative environment for medical teams.
The Cancer Centre, Women's Outpatients and pathology laboratory are already operational, with remaining services to become operational in a staged approach from 2026.
