John Hunter Children’s Hospital is calling on the community to dig deep, and help raise much needed funds for children and their families to have the greatest gift of all – a healthy and happy child – as part of our 12 Days of Christmas Appeal.
Funds raised will go towards improving patient experiences, and supporting families of sick kids facing financial hardship, domestic violence or homelessness while undergoing treatment.
Matthew Frith, General Manager of John Hunter Children’s Hospital said the appeal would provide a welcome distraction to patients, their families and carers during what is often a very stressful situation. “Having a sick child is difficult at any time, but it can be even harder during the festive season,” Matt said.
“Our team loves to make Christmas that little bit brighter for those in our care, and we hope that this year the community will get behind us and help bring the joy and magic of Christmas to children and young people.
“Every dollar donated helps provide that extra level of support, especially to vulnerable families who may be doing it tough while their child is sick, ill or injured,” he said.
Kicking off the appeal is 20-month-old, Ezekiel who will spend this Christmas in John Hunter Children’s Hospital. Ezekiel will switch on the lights of the hospital’s Christmas tree with the help of his mum, on Monday 5 December.
Ezekiel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on 11 August this year. His parents and two siblings have been staying at Ronald McDonald House in Newcastle while he receives treatment at John Hunter Children’s Hospital.
The 12 Days of Christmas Appeal will run from Monday 5 until Friday 16 December, and will include an exciting line-up of visitors – from superheroes, princesses, star troopers, Delta Therapy Dogs, balloon twisting elves and of course, Santa. As well as activities like Christmas craft, movie marathons, treasure hunts and a special present delivery.
If you would like to bring some festive magic to patients like Ezekiel and his family, and other children and young people who may have to spend the Christmas season in hospital – show your support by making a donation today.
