Community engagement with social housing building projects
Homes NSW aims to build meaningful relationships and encourage active community involvement across all phases of social housing building project delivery.
The Community Engagement team
Homes NSW has a dedicated Community Engagement team who are responsible for managing community engagement activities related to the delivery of social and affordable housing.
We strive to build respectful relationships in communities by putting people at the centre of everything we do. We believe all stakeholders should feel represented by the decisions we make.
We aim to:
- build meaningful relationships
- encourage active community involvement across all phases of project delivery.
Consultation principles
Homes NSW believes all stakeholders have a right to be consulted about development projects that may impact them.
Principles of:
- dignity
- respect
- equality
- equity
guide our engagement approach. This ensures meaningful participation from all stakeholder groups.

Community feedback
We want our stakeholders to feel heard.
We achieve this by:
- seeking early input into designs and developments
- making it easy for stakeholders to give feedback on concept designs
- open communication about how feedback affects our decision-making
- keeping the community informed throughout all phases of project delivery
- facilitating two-way communications between the community and Homes NSW
- being trauma-informed and learning from the lived experiences of social housing residents.
How we connect
We design our engagement activities according to the needs of our stakeholders. We try to connect with people in ways that make them feel safe, supported and empowered to contribute.
