New homes to tackle the housing crisis in Blayney
The Minns Labor Government is delivering on its commitment to tackle the regional housing crisis in the NSW town of Blayney, with six new social homes helping significantly reduce the local social housing waitlist.
Homes NSW has partnered with social enterprise Housing Plus to deliver a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, providing safe and comfortable homes for up to nine residents.
As of January 2025, 14 people were in need of social housing in Blayney and these new homes will reduce the current waitlist by more than half.
All six units in the Frape Street complex are conveniently located near public transport, the community centre and sport and leisure facilities.
The modern homes are energy efficient to reduce the cost of power bills and built to last, with plenty of space for easy future modifications so residents can age comfortably in their homes.
Four duplexes were funded under the NSW Government’s $225 million Community Housing Innovation Fund (CHIF), a program delivering around 1,000 social and affordable homes in collaboration with Community Housing Providers across the state.
An additional two units were funded by the Federal Government’s Social Housing Accelerator Fund (SHAF). The NSW government has invested $610 million of SHAF funding into priority social housing, including fast tracking new homes in regional areas such as Blayney.
These homes are in addition to the $6.6 billion Building Homes for NSW program, the largest investment into social housing ever made by a NSW government. The program will build 8,400 new homes for public housing, deliver 21,000 new affordable and market homes, and upgrade 30,000 social housing properties.
Duty Member of the Legislative Council for Bathurst Stephen Lawrence said:
