Stream 2: Homes NSW Refurbishments
Homes NSW will lead delivery on opportunities identified at Homes NSW owned refuges that are operated by Specialist Homelessness Services. Many of these refuges are older-style houses on large blocks with shared bathrooms and kitchens for clients, with significant maintenance costs due to their age. A number of these could be re-developed or upgraded to provide increased crisis accommodation in more modern, appropriately designed accommodation for individuals and families.
Consultation with managing SHSs and other stakeholders will inform site selection.
This stream will include opportunities such as:
- upgrades or enhancements to Government owned stock.
- renovating to deliver more rooms. Direct negotiations will be undertaken with SHSs currently managing these properties and providing support.
- where practical, Homes NSW will create more crisis housing through development and acquisition where feasible, utilising vacant land where possible.
Homes NSW will assess and deliver upgraded and more accommodation on feasible sites, leveraging delivery methods such as Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and strategic acquisitions.
