In addition to wider strategies including the Local Strategic Planning Statement and Local Housing Strategy, Lake Macquarie City Council has prepared detailed plans for the areas centres and neighbourhoods including guidance for residential development.

Department of Planning, Housing and Industry (DPHI)
Lake Macquarie’s direction aligns to Department of Planning, Housing and Industry’s regional and metropolitan plans: the Hunter Regional Plan 2036 and The Greater Newcastle Metropolitan Plan 2036. Council’s recent adoption of Lake Macquarie’s Medium Density Development Control Plan is expected to result in increased housing diversity outcomes across the LGA.
Community housing providers
Approximately 280 dwellings owned by the Homes NSW in the Lake Macquarie LGA are managed by community housing providers (CHPs).
