About the NSW Innovation and Productivity Council

We provide trusted independent advice and research to help New South Wales grow jobs, boost exports, and attract investment. Our work supports innovation and productivity across the state. We are a statutory body established under the Innovation and Productivity Council Act 1996.

What we do

We are an independent group of experts from business, government and universities who:

  • research innovation, productivity and economic performance
  • give the NSW Government advice based on data and global insights
  • support new ideas and better policies that help the state grow.

Our goal is to make NSW a thriving hub for business, innovation, talent and visitors.

NSW Innovation and Productivity Council - Message from Chairperson Charlie Taylor

As we adapt to a world of accelerating change and opportunities, improvements in outcomes depend on our ability to innovate and renew.
The New South Wales Innovation and Productivity Council is the state's lantern, backed by cutting edge research, to light the path ahead for New South Wales.
The council helps to shape the future of the New South Wales economy by advising the government and as an independent body, has a mission to champion policies and bold strategies that drive innovation and productivity for the benefit of everyone who calls New South Wales home.
Our members are drawn from the highest echelons of academia, industry and public life, and together they constitute an incredible base of knowledge and experience with which to lead projects that combine the expertise of all the panel members and tap into their vast specialist networks.
We encourage you to explore our past publications and to stay up to date with our reports as we embark on a new term with many new Council members, so that New South Wales can keep striving to be the world's best place to live, study, invest and do business.
