Cochlear leads the world in hearing technology
Cochlear is a Sydney-based company and a global leader in implantable hearing solutions. It has provided more than 850,000 hearing devices worldwide.
The company has invested over $2 billion in research and development. It runs six modern manufacturing sites, including one in Chengdu, China. Globally, it leads 100 joint research projects and employs 550 engineers.
Support for export success in China
Investment NSW’s team in China supported Cochlear to grow its exports in South China’s Greater Bay Area. Their success leveraged the strong sister-state relationship between NSW and Guangdong.
The team supported Cochlear to:
- register new technology in the Greater Bay Area Medical Pilot Program
- connect with China Resources Guangdong Pharmaceuticals to explore export opportunities.
Thanks to this support, Cochlear became the first Australian company approved under the Medical Pilot Program. It has since signed multimillion-dollar export contracts in the region.
