Southern Star Research case study

Southern Star Research, we're a contract research organisation.
We provide Consulting, medical research services and project management services to biotechnology, medical device companies, some big multinational pharmaceutical companies and also academic research institutes.
Some of our biggest goals when we first starting out was being able to establish a brand presence and being able to contact key clients overseas and access those marketplaces.
We first came across the Going Global program a few years ago.
We've always expected to export our services overseas, and so the Going Global program was really an extension of what our original business plans were.
The support we received from Investment New South Wales was excellent.
They were very much on board with us as a partner all the way through, and very, very committed to see us succeed.
One of the key aspects of the program was we got some expert advice.
It made us focus on how we can expand into the US or into other markets, some of the key things that we need to think about and consider.
The program supported us going to some overseas conferences. Those conferences were really targeted towards the key audience that we were trying to reach.
That allowed us to organise one-on-one meetings with a large number of potential clients for us to promote our services to them.
We've certainly seen results from it. We've signed the contracts and we're actually currently working on the projects now we.
Wan see our business thriving as a result of having more of those companies contact us, or contract business into us, so it's been been a phenomenal success in that regard.
It's really important to have that government support behind us. It helps us connect with other companies so we can network with them too.
Certainly going into any other market on your own is is hard.
Going in as a group of Australians creates a bit more noise and gets a bit more attention to Australia as a whole, and the group can thrive off each other and potentially refer business between the organisations.
Our hopes for the business are growing and expanding the business within Australia, but equally targeting European markets and also Asian markets.
Investment New South Wales certainly enhanced our efforts in both of those areas.
