A global Australian university expands to India
The University of Wollongong (UOW) is a world-class university. Prior to 2024, its campuses spanned Australia, Asia and the Middle East. With help from Investment NSW, UOW opened a new international campus at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, India.
UOW is one of the first foreign universities to set up a permanent campus in India. This helps expand access to Australian education and research in the region.
Support from Investment NSW
Investment NSW’s International Network and Study NSW supported UOW by:
- helping draft a letter of intent to open the GIFT City campus
- organising promotional events in Ahmedabad and Mumbai
- guiding the university through local rules and processes.
With this support, the campus officially opened in November 2024. It welcomed its first students in pilot programs.
Ongoing partnership for education in India
Investment NSW continues to work with UOW by:
- connecting the university with local partners and education leaders
- supporting the growth of UOW’s transnational education (TNE) across India and nearby regions.
This partnership helps position NSW as a leader in international education. It also builds stronger ties between Australia and India.
