Join North West Local Land Services for a guided bird walk with experts, learn about birds on farms, survey methods, habitat, and how to get involved as a citizen scientist.
Event details:
Join Local Land Services for this guided bird walk with bird ecologist Steve Debus (University of New England), local birdwatcher Alex Hunt, and Denise Kane (Tamworth Birdwatchers group) to learn about birds on farms, including:
what recent bird surveys of natural assets on farms are showing across North West NSW
different ways to survey birds: Visual encounter vs acoustic monitoring
how farming practices affect bird diversity, followed by a group activity
local stories about why birds are disappearing from farms
how trees, paddocks, and habitat features help support birds
how to become a citizen scientist through monitoring farm birds.
Additional details:
Morning tea and lunch will be provided
To ensure biosecurity, please keep your vehicle clean, free of soil, seeds or organic materials. Clean your boots thoroughly before arrival. A footbath will be provided on-site for additional disinfection before entering the property.
A woodland birds identification booklet will be provided. Please bring your hat, binoculars, and a chair.
