Overview of this event
Join Central West Local Land Services and CSIRO for a short workshop focused on the control and management of African Boxthorn using safe and approved biocontrol agents.
Event details:
African boxthorn (Lycium ferocissimum) is considered one of Australia’s most problematic invasive weeds. It also serves as a harbour for pest animals such as rabbits, foxes and other feral species. It has been prioritised for biocontrol due to its substantial impacts on agricultural productivity, biodiversity, and drought resilience.
CSIRO’s Senior Research Scientist Ben Gooden will lead an on‑ground walk where you’ll observe the release of the African boxthorn biocontrol. You’ll also have the chance to register your interest in receiving the biocontrol agent for release on your own property.
We’ll also have Local Land Services staff on hand to talk about:
revegetating waterways
support for managing pest animals
managing native vegetation on rural properties
current livestock health issues.
Additional details:
Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
Please bring a water bottle and wear suitable outdoor clothing and a hat
RSVP: Wednesday 24 April 2026
