Overview of this event
Cattle producers are invited to a hands-on, practical workshop exploring how dung beetles can improve soil health and pasture productivity on your farm.
Event details:
Join South East Local Land Services and Russ Barrow from Ecoinsects to learn about the wonderful world of dung beetles.
Often described as the underground workforce you didn’t know you needed, these tiny engineers can make a big impact on soil health, water infiltration, nutrient cycling and pasture productivity.
During this interactive, on-farm workshop, you will:
learn to identify dung beetle species relevant to your region
understand the role dung beetles play in improving soil health and function
explore how to promote and protect beetle populations on your property
see practical trapping and release techniques
take home resources to support your ‘pat to pasture’ success.
Each farm registered will receive a starter population of dung beetles to take home and release.
Capacity:
This workshop is limited to 15 farms. Each registered farm may bring multiple participants.
Additional details:
Morning tea, lunch, and refreshments will be provided.
This workshop will be held on farm. Biosecurity protocols will be communicated prior to the event.
