Overview of this event
This 6 workshop series for farmers and land managers helps build understanding of landscape capability and limitations through soil testing and interpretation.
South East Local Land Services is offering LANDSCAN workshops for landholders on the South Coast with the first of 6 sessions to be held in September.
The course is designed to help producers build their understanding of their landscapes and their limitations, gain skills in soil testing, test interpretation and soil fertility management.
Course details:
LANDSCAN will help participants to:
develop skills & knowledge to assess natural resources on farms (pastures, vegetation, soils & topography) to better match land-use to land capability.
make more informed decisions about managing landscapes and allocating resources to better balance production, profit & sustainability issues.
understand a process to help explain and make decisions about complex, often inter-related issues like soil acidity, ground cover, pasture & nutrient decline.
develop a sound basis for developing or modifying a farm plan.
The course is suitable for land managers both new through to long-term and of any sized property who are interested in learning more about and sustainably managing their natural resources.
Course delivery:
LANDSCAN is presented over a series of 6 half-day workshops that are usually held 4 to 6 weeks apart across an 8-month period.
The course uses a hands-on learning approach with the workshops conducted on group members’ properties.
Each session combines theory and practical experience out in the paddock.
Trainers: Jo Powells and Ross Kuchel, Senior Agricultural Advisors (LLS South East)
Cost: LANDSCAN is subsidised by South East Local Land Services, with the cost of the course only $300+GST per farm business. Up to 2 people per farm business can register.
The cost includes 6 workshop sessions, plus 2 soil tests, training manual and morning tea each session.
Location: Each workshop is held on-farm within the local area. The address will be supplied to registered participants. Similar workshop series are also being held around the Illawarra and Bega Valley areas.
Workshop places are limited. Register early.
You can join the waitlist if you miss out.
