Livestock update - Walcha

Gain practical insights into managing stock and making decisions in dry seasons. We’ll cover destocking decisions, feeding livestock, and hear the market outlook from an industry expert.   

Event details:

Presentations from Local Land Services will cover the strategies to consider when destocking and the long-term impacts on drought recovery, followed by a guide to supplementary feeding livestock. Attendees will then hear the latest market outlook from Rabobank Senior Animal Proteins Analyst Angus Gidley-Baird.  

Presentations include:  

• Destocking decisions:
  Impacts of reducing livestock numbers on drought management and farm business cash flow. We will work through scenarios that examine the impact of management decisions on post-drought recovery, including the role of trade stock and replacement females. 

• Supplementary feeding fundamentals:
  Learn to select appropriate feed types, estimate livestock feed requirements, and balance nutrition with cost to maintain livestock until the spring break. 

• Market outlook with Rabobank Senior Animal Proteins Analyst, Angus Gidley-Baird:
  Beef and lamb market and pricing outlooks to guide livestock management decisions.
