Safe cattle handling - Kempsey

This workshop, hosted by North Coast Local Land Services, is open to landholders who want to improve their knowledge of safe cattle handling.

Event details:

This two‑day workshop covers the theory and importance of low‑stress cattle handling for both livestock welfare and handler safety. Participants will take part in practical sessions, including best‑practice yard design and low‑stress handling techniques.

This workshop is designed for landholders who own cattle, whether on small or large properties. Attendees will learn the theory behind best‑practice livestock handling, understand their legal obligations as cattle owners, and gain practical tips on effective yard design. The workshop also includes hands‑on sessions focused on handling cattle calmly and safely. Participants should attend to improve their cattle handling skills, enhance on‑farm safety, and reduce stress and bruising on cattle.

Course structure:

Attendees are required to attend both days:

• Tuesday 21 April - 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

• Wednesday 22 April - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

Additional details:

• The course has a theory and a practical component. The practical component includes looking at the yard design and handling cattle.

• Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided. Landholders should bring sturdy work boots or gum boots, hat and sun protection. And appropriate clothing.
