Overview of this event
Join Murray Local Land Services at 'The Overflow' to explore the real opportunities and challenges of diversifying farm income through biodiversity markets.
Event details:
This on‑farm event showcases how 'The Overflow' farms for profit and for the planet.
The Durnan's property, 'The Overflow', located near Morundah, has successfully accessed multiple biodiversity market options over the years. They are participants in the Paddocks for Plains-wanderers Project with Murray Local Land Services and have also entered into a Biodiversity Stewardship Agreement. This agreement has enabled them to generate and sell biodiversity credits while improving habitat for threatened species and ecosystems.
Enjoy a guided farm walk through their stunning creek country and hear first‑hand experiences from landholders and experts working across biodiversity, natural capital, and environmental markets.
Guest speakers:
Wayne Durnan (Landholder) – A farmer’s perspective on navigating biodiversity markets
Justin Williams (DCCEEW, Stewardship Support Program) – NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme
Cassie Douglas (Biodiversity Conservation Trust) – Conservation covenants on private land
Emily Wilson (Natural Capital Advisor, Murray LLS) – Natural capital and environmental markets
Gus McKinnon (Plains-wander Project Officer, Murray LLS) – Paddocks for Plains-wanderers Project update
Claire Birch (Corowa District Landcare) – How Landcare supports conservation on farms
